Natural Horse Way Foundation Training |
Foundation Training is for horses with no training or very little training, greenbroke horses, horses missing basic elements in training, or those who need a total makeover. Horses requiring Foundation Training are trained using Frank Bell’s 7-Step Safety System. See Frank Bell’s website for more information on this highly effective approach with horses, www.horsewhisperer.com
Foundation Training includes additional groundwork goals. Your horse will also learn to:
Respond to your signal to come Respect your space Accept a halter, bridle, and saddle Stand tied quietly Allow for touching, grooming and washing all over Lead on a “soft feel” from both sides Load and unload from a trailer Pick up all feet Follow a handler at liberty in the round pen Build confidence through facing obstacles and being ponied across varied terrain and water crossings
Foundation Training is generally 60-90 days, however horses will not be pushed beyond their level of understanding during this time. Some horses will be ready for riding earlier, and some reactive horses may need more time on groundwork. We must respect this for our own safety as well as keeping a horse's willing attitude intact.
